School’s out for summer! That means all of you parents have to find creative ways to entertain your kids for the next few months. Well I’m here to make your life a little easier with great ways to entertain your kids for FREE!
1. POOL DAY
New York City pools are now open! So to beat the heat bring your little one’s to a pool. There is a new pop-up pool in Brooklyn that I think would be great for this day of fun. The new Pop-up Pool in Brooklyn Bridge Park is open from 10am to 6pm. Other great pools for families is McCarren Park Pool. It’s clean and huge, your kids will love it. 2. OUTDOOR MOVIE
Take your kids on an outdoor family date! There are several outdoor movie screenings for families and kids across New York City. Some of my favorite’s are RiverFlicks Family Fridays every Friday beginning July 11th with a showing of Despicable Me 2 at 8:30pm. Another outdoor movie event for families is Front Row Cinema on South Street Seaport. For a full list of all outdoor movies visit nycgo.com
3. FAMILY DAY EVENTS
This suggestion is going to be your best friend this summer. There are several free family and kid friendly events all summer. Summerstage Kids hosts several family events all summer. Also, South Street Seaport hosts their KidAround events every Sunday. Lastly, Union Square Park hosts several events for kids such as Yoga Storytime. 4. M– — USEUM/ZOO
Your kids will be so excited when you take them to the zoo. You will be just as excited because a day at the zoo means they will be exhausted and asleep afterwards. On Wednesday’s the Bronx Zoo is free for everyone. If you choose, you can donate whatever amount you’d like. The Brooklyn Botanical Garden‘s are always free for kids under age 12. The Brooklyn Children’s Museum is free on Thursdays from 3-5 p.m. and until 7 p.m. on the third Thursday of the month. For a full list of free museum’s and times visit nycgo.com.
Even though the playground is such a cliche activity to do with your kids, you have to take them to the best kid friendly playgrounds. A few playgrounds that I believe are great for kids is Gantry Plaza State Park in Long Island City, Hudson River Park on Pier 25 in Manhattan, Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens and the Brooklyn Bridge Park in Dumbo, Brooklyn.
