Keep Smiling Nonprofit Organization and I are hosting a “Donation Drive for Hurricane Irma Relief in St. Thomas, USVI”
We would like to say thank you for your contributions! Because of you we were able to send four 55 gallon bins filled with wipes, toilet paper, batteries, (for those without power using battery operated appliances) toddlers pull-ups, deodorant, soap, toilet paper, tooth paste and tooth brushes and much more!
These items will arrive by ship on October 28, 2017 and we are collaborating with the St. Thomas Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. to distribute these items. Stay tuned..
“Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria, both category 5 hurricanes and some of the most powerful storms ever to hit the Atlantic Ocean have ripped through the beloved island of St. Thomas and we are requesting your help to bring necessities and goods to the people who are in need.”
St. Thomas, one of the three islands (St. Thomas, St. John and St. Croix) whom combined are known as the U.S Virgin Islands was hit terribly by Hurricane Irma and then two weeks later, Hurricane Maria. The island suffered major damage including power loss, major flooding and strong winds that ripped off the roof of homes leaving families destitute without any of their basic needs. The island’s one and only hospital was crippled by the storms leaving patients without proper care and causing mandatory evacuation.
Keep Smiling Non-profit is an organization created by Terrell Simmons whose mission is to inspire, motivate and encourage underserved communities by providing enrichment programs, community outreach and mentorship opportunities to individuals with confined mindsets impacted by poverty. When Terrell heard about the devastation in all of the Caribbean, he immediately wanted to use his organization to provide relief to the people in need.
My maternal grandparents are natives of St. Thomas and because of this, St. Thomas is my favorite Caribbean island. Because I hold the island so close to my heart, I knew immediately that creating this relief drive was my way to bring a positive impact to not only my relatives and friends affected by the devastation of Hurricane Irma, but to the St. Thomian people that truly can be helped by it.
Keep Smiling Non-Profit and I will be hosting a food, clothing and supplies drive on October 14-15, 2017 from 11am-4pm in Dumbo, Brooklyn where we are welcoming donations of the suggested donation items below. For those who are unable to come, this Go Fund Me page has been created for monetary donations to cover shipping costs (items will be shipped via Tropical Shipping) and to purchase more items to be shipped along with the donated items.
Suggested Donation Items:
New or Gently Worn Clean Clothing
Baby Supplies (Diapers and Wipes)
Toiletries (Soap, Shampoo, Conditioner, Toilet Paper, Lotion, Deodorant, Toothbrush, Toothpaste)
All donations will be shipped out on October 16, 2017. We know that your donations will positively influence the lives of the St. Thomian people and we greatly appreciate your participation.
