It’s the perfect place to relax after a revitalizing facial or one of their many massages.
This sounds like exactly what you need doesn’t it? It was exactly what I needed after a full weekend of running around New York City. Upon entering Body by Brooklyn I was welcomed with warm smiles by their welcoming staff and a robe. I quickly changed into my swimsuit and flip flops (two spa necessities) and was whisked away to begin my massage. My massage therapist Elizabeth was very friendly, professional and gentle yet firm with me. She really helped me to relax and I found myself almost falling asleep. After my massage, I went to the bar for a glass of Pinot Grigio. What’s a relaxing experience without a glass of wine? After my wine, I decided to have a little fun at the Wet Lounge. The steam rooms and sauna’s at Body by Brooklyn are great for relaxation, detoxification, energy restoration and hangover relief (yes they will cure your hangover from last night.) I spent time in each sauna and ended my luxurious experience with a dip in the hot tub.

A Paint Nite Party for You
Hey Sharae, it’s your birthday and as my annual gift to you, I’ve planned your surprise celebration. My sister Sharae is an artist, a graphic designer, and a UX (user experience) designer. She’s been drawing pictures and painting since we were kids. I use to bring my classwork home from art class in junior high, have her do it for me and bring it back completed perfectly. (Needless to say my teacher caught on to this once she had Sharae as a student in later years.) So I thought a wonderful way to celebrate her birthday this year is to tap into her expertise and have all of her friends join in. This year I planned a Paint Nite celebration. Paint Nite is a sip and paint activity where you are instructed by an artist to paint a selected piece of artwork and drink creatively. It was the perfect birthday celebration for an artist and friends.
Our instructor for our event was Chris Ams, a very lively and encouraging instructor and our featured painting was the Homemade Bouquet. I chose something I knew Sharae would like and also a painting those of us who didn’t graduate from Savannah College of Art and Design could keep up with. Chris let us know that we could be as creative as we wanted to be and didn’t have to follow exactly what he was instructing. We were encouraged to be as creative as our abilities would take us. Sharae decided to paint her friend Jairus, Stephanie painted a pretty cool skull head with a floral face, Joe painted his background a vibrant blue color and Kaleb chose large flowers as his petals. I on the other hand had Sharae paint a vase for me instead of a mason jar. (Once again reverting back to the days Sharae did all, yes all of my art projects.)
Paint Nite lasts about two hours. We all enjoyed mixing colors, following along with the direction of our instructor and adding our own flair. Paint Nite is available in different areas of New York City as well as across the country. I encourage you to sign up for a Paint Nite near you. It’s a great date night experience, and it’s perfect for group activity including birthdays, bachelorette parties or any bonding experience. You may purchase tickets through Groupon here or sign up for emails and receive their monthly promotional deals at paintnite.com. Thank you Paint Nite for hosting a wonderful experience for my sister’s birthday!
2015 Food Festivals and Markets
Well after what feels like the longest and coldest winter ever, New York City is finally experiencing some pretty consistent spring weather. This warm weather only means one thing, it’s time to frolic in the sun and eat your little hearts away. So for your eating pleasures, I’ve compiled some of my favorite outdoor food festivals. All you have to do is bring an appetite, wear comfy shoes, carry cash and gather some friends and your spring will be off to a hearty start.
Smorgasburg is probably the front runner of all NYC food festivals. With hundreds of popular vendors including Dough, Piece of Velvet, Ramen Burger, The Good Batch and my absolute favorite, The Bolivian Llama Party. It’s open every weekend from April to November in several locations. Saturdays, this Brooklyn Flea Festival is located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn at 90 Kent Ave. (at N. 7th St.) and Sunday’s it’s located in Brooklyn Bridge Park,Pier 5. Two new locations have just been added as well. They are Coney Island, 1320 Bowery St. (At Stillwell Ave.) and South Street Seaport 11 Fulton St. (at Front St.) For more information and festival hours, visit smorgasburg.com
2. LIC Flea
This year I experienced the Long Island City Flea & Food market for the first time. I can say I really enjoyed it. It’s located at 5-25 46th Avenue and is open every weekend beginning April 11 from 10am to 6pm. My favorite vendors were Luke’s Lobster and Booqoo Beignets. It was my first time having a lobster roll, I had been wanting to try one for a long time, it was absolutely delicious. I also had been craving beignets, and since I couldn’t make a trip to Louisiana, these were a great substitute.
3. Urban Space Markets
Urban Space creates several markets in NYC that offer great food, shops and other things to enjoy. This summer their markets include Madison Square Eats located in the Madison Square Park Conservancy taking place from May 1-28th, Broadway Bites in Greeley Square Park which runs from June 1st to July 26th and Garment District beginning at 41st Street and Broadway which runs between May 4 and June 14th. These markets include vendors like Momofuku Milk Bar, Nunu Chocolates, Red Hook Lobster and People’s Pops.

A Breathtaking Day At The Orchid Show
I have been impatiently waiting for Spring time for the past few weeks now. But apparently, it’s been Spring time at the Botanical Garden since February 28th. Inside the New York Botanical Garden is the annual display of my favorite flower. This display is called The Orchid Show. There are hundreds of species of the orchid flower showcased all throughout the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory. There’s only one word that describes this beautiful flower world, it’s “breathtaking.”
When I entered the Orchid Show, I didn’t know where to look. Throughout the show are hanging flower baskets, colorful column displays and the biggest flower chandelier you’ve ever seen. For a girl like me who always keeps an orchid flower pot at her desk at work. This was like orchid heaven. I didn’t even know there were so many different species of orchids and it was amazing to see them all in one place.
One of my favorite displays was the huge chandelier of white orchids. It actually gave me some wedding ideas while standing under it. It reminded me of a huge halo, and would be a gorgeous focal piece for a wedding. My most favorite part of the show was in the rainforest room. There is one room that has a waterfall statue that falls into a pool in the center of the room. All around the room are different flowers and plants. It also has benches for you to sit and absorb the experience. This room is peaceful and soothing. I sat on a bench for over a half hour and it was the most relaxing moment I’ve had in a while. I want to return just to sit in that room again.
The Orchid Show is perfect for a date, they also have select dates for this purpose called Orchid Evenings. You can listen to music, toast your cocktails and receive beauty treatments from a Guerlain make up artist during these evenings. There is a great deal on living social for $29. Take advantage of this deal. The Orchid Show event runs from February 28th to April 19th so you have two more weeks to experience this breathtaking orchid presentation.
