I have an announcement to make! I am now a Certified Wedding and Event Planner! I have completed my certification course from the Wedding Planning Institute. This course was fantastic. It was a ten week course that taught me how to properly create a business, how to gain and work with clients, the process of planning an event or wedding and everything that a wedding entails from the guests, to food, to decor, to the venue to the attire. Our instructor Abeki Carter of Chic Occasions Events was very knowledgeable and always encouraged the class to work together, to think outside of the box and to add our own personalities to our business because that’s what makes our business unique. I thought I’d share three of my favorite experiences from the course to give you an idea of what I worked on.
Wedding Attire Project
As a class project we were asked to each create a board that showcased wedding attire. This project was open ended and allowed us to express ourselves and incorporate materials to showcase our vision. I decided to do a wedding attire vision board. It showed the story of a client who wanted a “Modern Fairytale Wedding.” Think Cinderella but in 2015. So I created different options for a bride and groom including different styles of a wedding dress. I also included information on pricing and where these different options could be purchased. In addition to the board, I included swatches so my classmates could feel the different materials. In the end, I was one of the winners for the best wedding attire project!
Plan A Social Event or Wedding
My favorite project of all five projects including three required projects and two classroom presentations was Project 1, “Plan A Social Event or Wedding.” For this project I used the vision of a close friend of mine, and brought her wedding dream to life. She wants a “New Years Eve Royal Enchantment Wedding.” I incorporated her theme, her color preference, the type of venue she envisions, her budget, the food and other special details. Here is what we planned. (Please note: These are not my pictures, all of these pictures were found on the internet)
For our graduation, we were asked to come up with a theme and collaborate on planning and executing our vision as a team. As a class, we decided to do a “Diner a Paris” or “Dinner in Paris” themed celebration. We collaborated on all aspects of planning and bringing the necessary materials to our celebration. My input was the invitations, table number and place cards designed by my sister, Sharae Gibbs of shedesigns.org and the menu’s designed by Pamela Green of pamgreendesigns.org. All photography is by Vladimir Olivier of 219 Productions @2onenine_photos. I was completely blown away at how beautifully my classmates and I executed our vision. Welcome to our “Diner a Paris.”
I want to extend a warm thank you to those of you who donated to my Go Fund Me. Without you, I would not have been able to take this course. I’m so elated with the outcome and I cannot wait to plan amazing events in the future.
